Hello lovelies, today I thought I would put my design degree to use and show you step by step how to create this (or anything similar that you want!) on Adobe Illustrator. 2 quick things before we start – 1) this is going to be quite a lengthy post because I didn’t want to miss any steps out 2) I know that not everyone will have Illustrator as it is quite expensive but it is by far the best program to create prints and logos! (you also can get it in a package with photoshop which is obviously great for editing photos – something I will do a post on soon)
To begin with you will need an image, this can either be one you have drawn by hand and scanned in or a line drawing from google images (just make sure you are allowed to use it though!) It is important that all of the lines on the outside of it are touching! I chose this flamingo that I doodled earlier! You also have to work slightly backwards with illustrator and pick the font first before you even open Illustrator so that way it will be downloaded into your font folder.
- use the website DaFont and search for the style of font that you want
- once you’ve found one click download
- double click on it in your downloads folder
- FIND THE TTF FILE (that’s important) and double click on it
- click install font
- open Illustrator and drag you image/scan into it
- click on the image to select it then click image trace
- click on expand
- go to object – ungroup (to separate the different parts of you image)
- click on the background white space and delete it to leave just your image/logo
- pick a section you want to add colour to and select it. Go to the colour palette button on the right and in the top corner there will be a menu button that looks like 3 lines stacked on top of each other. Click it and select CMYK then make a colour you like
- once you’ve coloured all you want select it all and go to object – group
- your logo/image is done! To resize it hold down shift and drag the bottom corner in or out
- to add text select the type tool and draw a box
- type in your blog name/quote or whatever you want
- highlight the type then go to character
- use the dropdown menu to select your font you downloaded earlier
- making sure your on the arrow button) right click on the text and click create outlines
- go to object – ungroup (to separate the letters)
- highlight individual words and go to object – group for all of the words
- play around with the layout of the words (make sure you hold shift to resize them)
- when you’re happy select it all and go to object – group
- to save it as an image go to file – export – export as
- give it a name and pick where you want to save it to. then select JPG in the dropdown menu (if you don’t want the white background then chose PNG)
- set the quality to maximum and voila you are all done!
I really hope all of this made sense but if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask on here or my twitter or my instagram! I can’t wait to see what you make!
